Before any work was done

Image of garden at Drumhollistan before any work was done by us.

I have just found an image of the garden at Drumhollistan before we took over. The elder bushes in the centre are where we have located the decking.

When we first saw this garden and was told the previous owner spent about four hours a week mowing, we decided that we were going to cut the mowing down to as little as possible.
As so much of the site is steep slopes we thought that the only way to cut out mowing these was to plant up with shrubs and trees.

Flatter areas would be kept as grass for the time being. We also found that the lower part of the garden was quite boggy. As we intended having a bog garden at some point we decided to utilise this area for that purpose and not make any effort to drain it. We'll need to see how it dries out in the summer before we include that in the plan.

Yesterday I errected the 18' x10' polytunnel frame, because we can expect some strong storms
here I used half a bag of Postcrate for each of the eight ground posts to give the tunnel a good grounding.
The frame is now up and seems to be very strong and secure.
Image, the frame goes up on a cold and damp day.

Postcrete, the best thing since sliced bread. it comes in 20kg bags and you just put it in the hole with water and five minutes later it's hard. Gone are the days of mixing cement and waiting for a day for it to harden before work could begin.

The next thing is to fit a wooden door frame to both ends. Today we have snow and I'll try to build the frame in the garage, so it will be ready to attach to the frame as soon as the weather changes.

Looks like you have a big job on your hands but sensibly using all the tricks the modern diy'er has at their disposal. Look forward to watching the progress Phil. God Luck with the weather.
